Corporate archives programs should look a lot different now than they did 20, 10, even five years ago. As an organization that’s been around for more than 40 years, we’ve seen all the iterations.
Even though we’ve been there, done that, we wanted to make sure that our thoughts and impressions about the current state of corporate archives were on track. So we sent out a survey to collect the data for ourselves.
What we learned mostly didn’t surprise us, although some of it did. For example, only 15% of survey respondents feel it’s “very easy” to gain access to their archives. That’s not ideal for any organization hoping to have a successful program.
Other findings proved our intuition was right on the money: digitization, data security and protection, and access to archives are imposing challenges for decision-makers, corporate archivists, and archives users, respectively.
In this survey findings report, we’ll break down:
- Why these archives challenges exist.
- How tech advancements have exacerbated these challenges.
- What you can do to overcome these obstacles and make your archives system the value-driver you always wanted it to be.
