Jason, one of the newest members of the History Factory family, joins us as our in-house video editor extraordinaire. Based in Nashville, Jason (unsurprisingly) loves the world of cinema, including both foreign and domestic films. He also never misses an opportunity to toss a disc. Read on to get to know him, and who knows—maybe someday you’ll spot him on the beach with a Frisbee in hand.
What is your all-time favorite book and why?
Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley is a book I will sit down and read at least once a year. Through incredible visuals and clever dialogue, it tells the story of a young woman learning to be a decent person.
What is your all-time favorite movie and why?
JP: The Wind Rises by Hayao Miyazaki is the greatest film ever made. In addition to its perfect visuals and sweeping story, it perfectly encapsulates why we tell stories through the language of film. The earthquake sequence alone changed my perception of what a movie could be.
What is your dream vacation?
JP: My dream vacation would be a tour of rural Italy. I would love to spend several weeks diving headfirst into their culture and cuisine. I have often told friends my dream is to learn proper pasta-making techniques from an old Italian woman.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I retain a lot of knowledge about movies I have never seen. If you name a movie from the last 12 years, even if I haven’t seen it, I can probably tell you what it’s about or who stars in it.
Tell us about a hobby and how you got into it.
I am an avid disc golfer and play or train at least 20 hours a week. I grew up throwing Frisbees with my family and discovered the sport in earnest about six years ago, during college. This year alone I will have competed in 26 tournament rounds across three states.
